Federal prosecutors have narrowed their case against Jonathan Lindecrantz, the man accused of igniting the devastating 2025 Palisades fire in Los Angeles, by reducing charges from three counts to two in a new indictment filed Thursday.[1] The original trial ended in a mistrial in June when ten jurors voted for acquittal on all three felony counts, preventing a unanimous verdict.[1]
The Palisades fire resulted in twelve deaths and destroyed more than 6,800 structures, making it the most destructive fire in Los Angeles history.[1] Prosecutors allege that Lindecrantz used a grill lighter to start a fire on January 1, 2025.[1] In the revised indictment, only one of the two remaining charges involves both fires that were part of the original case.[1] Judge Anne Huang is scheduled to hold a status hearing on Wednesday, with the retrial set to begin in the fall.[1]
