The State Administration for Market Regulation recently announced the results of a food safety supervision sampling program covering 2,313 batches of samples, of which 47 batches were found to be non-compliant 1. The non-compliant food products exhibited violations primarily related to food additives and microbiological standards 1.
The main deficiencies identified included excessive levels of or non-compliance with additives such as tartrazine, quinoline yellow, sorbic acid, sulfur dioxide, dehydroacetic acid, and cyclamate 1. Additionally, microbiological contamination was detected, with certain samples failing to meet standards for microorganisms such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa, E. coli, and total plate count 1. The problematic products were distributed through major e-commerce platforms including Taobao, Pinduoduo, Douyin, WeChat, Kuaishou, and Tmall, as well as physical supermarket retailers, and originated from across 28 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities nationwide 1.
Provincial market regulation departments have been mobilized to conduct follow-up investigations and enforcement actions in response to the findings 1.
