A 50-year-old father and his two sons were rescued after spending more than 16 hours stranded at sea off the coast of Thailand following a jet ski accident.[1][2] The French family had rented a jet ski on Thursday at approximately 17:00 local time near Koh Samui before the incident occurred.[2] According to the father, rough waves struck the jet ski and caused the engine to stall, leaving them adrift.[2]
Rescue personnel discovered the family on Friday at around 10:00 local time using speedboats and multiple jet skis to conduct the search operation.[2] Officials suspended search efforts overnight and resumed them the following day.[2] Thai official Amorn Chomchoey described the rescued family members as appearing "pale" and "exhausted after swallowing large amounts of seawater."[2] All three were transported to a hospital for medical examination and subsequently discharged.[1][2] The family has since remained in Thailand to continue their vacation.[2]
