Shenzhen-based artist Yu Xianying, born in 1999, opened her inaugural solo exhibition "She Window: Yu Xianying Art Exhibition" at the Oriental Bay Cultural Center in Shenzhen [1]. The post-99s artist, who studied printmaking and oil painting in Boston, has become a member of the Boston Printmaking Society and seen her works acquired for permanent collection by both the Guanlan Printmaking Museum and Boston University's art museum [1].
During her time at Boston University, Yu founded a Hanfu society that brought together more than one hundred Chinese and international culture enthusiasts, establishing herself as a pioneer in wearing traditional Chinese clothing abroad [1]. The society has organized distinctive programming including "Twelve Flower Goddesses" and Mid-Autumn Festival-themed Hanfu performances [1]. Yu has participated in multiple artist residencies, including two stints at Shenzhen's Guanlan Printmaking Base in 2023 and 2025, as well as a 2024 residency at FullTilt Printmaking Workshop in the United States [1].
The current exhibition centers on the image of the "window" as its core concept, exploring women's circumstances, traditional culture, and cross-cultural identity through the medium of copper-plate printmaking [1]. Her signature work "Spring Banquet" combines multiple techniques including lithography, monochromatic painting, dry-point etching, and silk-screen backgrounds, with individual prints requiring up to one month to complete [1]. Looking forward, Yu plans to pursue a master's degree in printmaking at the Rhode Island School of Design while integrating Hanfu craftsmanship with installation art in her innovative practice [1].
