Israeli settlers have surrounded two Palestinian families in the village of Qusra in the West Bank since Sunday, cutting off their water and electricity supplies and blocking access roads.[1] The Abu Ridi and Hassan families have been trapped, with seven individuals unable to leave their homes.[1] Food supplies have become critically scarce due to the siege.[1]
On Wednesday, Israeli security forces clashed with the settlers at the illegal settlement, leading to their withdrawal from the site, though approximately a dozen settlers remained in the area.[1] The Israeli Defense Force command visited the location that day and announced disciplinary measures in response to the incident.[1] Qasay Abu Ridi, one of the affected residents, stated: "We live in our own home, our own land, and all we ask for is the right to live safely and with dignity."[1]
The siege reflects a broader pattern of violence in the West Bank. According to UN data, 76 Palestinians, including 18 children, have been killed by Israeli forces or settlers in 2024.[1] Since January 2023, 127 Palestinian communities have experienced full or partial displacement, displacing over 6,390 Palestinians.[1] A UN official noted that settler violence has reached "unprecedented levels," while another warned that the West Bank is on the brink of collapse and called for international intervention.[1]
