At 88 years old, acclaimed British actor Anthony Hopkins has released his first classical music album, "Life Is a Dream," featuring 12 compositions he created over six decades.[1] The album was recorded in April 2024 at Alexandra Palace in London with conductor Gustavo Dudamel leading the Philharmonia Orchestra, and is being released by Decca Records on August 21.[1] Hopkins stated that "my first love, or vocation really, is music," underscoring his long-standing passion for composition alongside his celebrated acting career.[1]
The album draws thematic inspiration from Hopkins' Welsh childhood and explores reflections on life's transience.[1] His connection to film scoring extends back to 1993 when he composed the music for "Shadowlands," his first major work in that medium.[1] Actor Bradley Cooper reportedly recommended Hopkins' compositions to Dudamel, contributing to the realization of this album project.[1] Looking ahead, Hopkins plans to perform the work live at Carnegie Hall.[1]
