David Chandler, the former New South Wales building commissioner, has unveiled a housing project designed to address the state's affordability crisis. The initiative, known as MM3, proposes to deliver 4,000 new residential units within three years by leveraging government-acquired land, standardized designs, and streamlined construction processes to reduce building costs by at least 20 percent.[1]
Under Chandler's plan, two-bedroom apartments would be priced between $350,000 and $400,000, significantly below current market rates.[1] The former commissioner, who brings 50 years of experience in the building industry, has indicated his willingness to lead the project directly should the government adopt his proposal and call him back to public service.[1] Chandler estimates the design phase would require five to seven years to complete before construction could commence.[1]
