The State Administration for Market Regulation has approved and released an updated mandatory national standard titled "Vehicle Dimensions, Axle Load and Mass Limits for Automobiles, Trailers and Automobile Trains," which will take effect on July 1, 2027 for newly approved vehicle models and January 1, 2028 for previously certified models 1. The revised standard introduces several adjustments targeting intelligent connected vehicles, new energy commercial vehicles, fuel-efficient models, and containerized transport operations.
The standard expands permissible dimensions for intelligent connected vehicles by establishing exemption rules for perception and communication components, including radar, cameras, and V2X antennas 1. For heavy-duty applications, the maximum axle load limit per single wheel on one side of a single axle has been increased from 7,000 kilograms to 8,000 kilograms 1. Additionally, the length limit for streamlined articulated trains has been set at 18.1 meters, while articulated trains designed to transport 45-foot containers may reach 17.3 meters, an increase from the previous 17.1-meter limit 1.
