Former San Francisco 49ers running back Roger Craig revealed during his Pro Football Hall of Fame induction speech that he has been diagnosed with vascular dementia.[1] In a recorded video address, Craig stated that doctors believe the condition "may be related, at least in part, to the concussions" he sustained throughout his professional career.[1] Despite the diagnosis, Craig emphasized that it will not define him and expressed hope that sharing his story would raise awareness about brain health.[1]
Craig was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2026 alongside Drew Brees, Larry Fitzgerald, Luke Kuechly, and Adam Vinatieri.[1] The induction ceremony took place on Saturday at Tom Benson Stadium in Canton, Ohio.[1] Craig's Hall of Fame career with the 49ers, which began when he was drafted in the second round in 1983, included winning three of the team's five Super Bowls.[1] In 1985, he made NFL history by becoming the first player in a single season to record both 1,000 rushing yards and 1,000 receiving yards.[1]
