President Trump hosted a reception Thursday in the White House East Room to celebrate American athletes who competed in this year's Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics and Paralympics.[1] Nearly half of the U.S. team members who participated in the Games attended the event, including speed skater Jordan Stoltz.[1]
The United States fielded 300 athletes across both competitions and won a combined 57 medals.[1] Trump presented the Olympians and Paralympians with special commemorative coins and offered them invitations to tour the Oval Office.[1] Gold medalist members of the U.S. women's ice hockey team, Abbey Murphy and Joy Dunne, were among those who attended the Thursday celebration.[1]
Not all medal winners chose to participate in the White House recognition. Ice dancers Emilea Zingas and Vadym Kolesnik expressed their unwillingness to attend the event through social media posts.[1] Trump noted that Salt Lake City will host the 2034 Winter Olympics, while Los Angeles is set to hold the 2028 Summer Games.[1]
