Authorities in Ningbo, Zhejiang have taken enforcement action against a short-video content creator who illegally modified an uninhabited island without obtaining required permits.[1] The influencer conducted construction activities including building structures, opening roads, installing electricity, and fishing on Qiaomu Bay Island in Xiangshan County while broadcasting the entire process online.[1]
Investigators from the Xiangshan Second Working Station of the Ningbo Maritime Police discovered that the creator illegally constructed five buildings and related facilities on the island.[1] These actions constitute unlawful island usage, as uninhabited islands are owned by the state under the Law of the People's Republic of China on Island Protection.[1] The violator faces potential penalties across three categories: administrative fines ranging from 20,000 to 200,000 yuan; fishing-related violations for operating without a required fishing permit, subject to fines up to 200,000 yuan; and tourism-related violations for constructing permanent residential facilities, also carrying fines of 20,000 to 200,000 yuan.[1] Additionally, the illegal online broadcast may result in internet regulatory consequences including warnings, suspension of content publication, or account closure.[1]
