Leapmotor Chairman Zhu Jiangming stated on a podcast program that the automotive manufacturing industry requires a minimum investment of 20 billion yuan, acknowledging that "if I'd known car manufacturing was this expensive, I wouldn't have done it."[1] According to Zhu, manufacturing automobiles demands at least this level of capital commitment to achieve viability.
Zhu reflected on his 2015 decision to leave Dahua Technology and enter the automotive sector, characterizing the company's past decade as exceptionally difficult.[1] He noted that Leapmotor has only recently reached its breakeven point after navigating what he described as a "nine-lives-lost" journey.[1] Despite these challenges, Zhu expressed conviction that Leapmotor's market valuation is severely undervalued, emphasizing that a 500 million yuan valuation is "far too cheap."[1] To demonstrate his confidence, he has increased his stake by a total of 1.9 billion Hong Kong dollars over the past year.[1]
Looking ahead, Zhu outlined ambitious sales projections for the company, targeting 590,000 units sold in 2025, with aspirations to reach the one million unit mark in 2026.[1]
