Jumper, who shared the 2024 Nobel Prize in Chemistry with DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis for the AlphaFold breakthrough, ended nearly nine years at DeepMind to pursue this transition.[1] Before departing, both Jumper and Adler were reassigned to Google's internal "Code Strike" team, tasked with enhancing Gemini's programming capabilities.[1] Google has signaled a strategic pivot away from specialized research units toward a unified scientific system powered by Gemini.[1]
Despite the reorganization, the AlphaFold database, related models, and ongoing research continue to operate.[1] Pharmaceutical development work stemming from AlphaFold has been transferred to Isomorphic Labs.[1]
