Jumper, who shared the 2024 Nobel Prize in Chemistry with DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis for the AlphaFold breakthrough, ended nearly nine years at DeepMind to pursue this transition.1 Before departing, both Jumper and Adler were reassigned to Google's internal "Code Strike" team, tasked with enhancing Gemini's programming capabilities.1 Google has signaled a strategic pivot away from specialized research units toward a unified scientific system powered by Gemini.1
Despite the reorganization, the AlphaFold database, related models, and ongoing research continue to operate.1 Pharmaceutical development work stemming from AlphaFold has been transferred to Isomorphic Labs.1
