The selloff extended beyond South Korea's borders, with Taiwan's TSMC shares falling 3% and Japan's Nikkei declining 1.5% on the same day.[1] In the United States, major chip manufacturers including Intel, AMD, Sandisk, Western Digital, and Seagate all posted losses on Wall Street.[1] According to Gary Tan, a portfolio manager at Allspring Global Investments, the market's harsh reaction reflected shifting expectations: "SK Hynix delivered strong results, but in today's AI market, strong is no longer enough."[1] Han Ji-young, an analyst at Kiwoom Securities, attributed the continued decline to panic selling after initial hopes for a rebound evaporated following the previous day's plunge.[1]
South Korea's finance minister Koo Yun-cheol announced to the national assembly that the government was reviewing potential market stabilization measures in response to the volatility.[1]
