China’s State Administration for Market Regulation has approved and released a new national standard titled "Basic Requirements for Socialized Accompanied Medical Services," designated as GB/T 47801—2026. 1 The regulation is scheduled to officially come into force on November 1, 2026, aiming to regulate the emerging industry of accompanied medical visits and address issues regarding inconsistent service quality. 1
The new standard clearly defines service providers as "institutions" and their staff as "accompanying medical service specialists." 1 These services are intended for individuals facing difficulties in seeking medical care due to mobility constraints, cognitive impairments, or geographical disparities, as well as those seeking an enhanced patient experience. 1 To ensure compliance, the standard strictly prohibits accompanying specialists from interpreting test results, participating in medical procedures, offering medical advice, adjusting medication plans, or signing legal documents on behalf of patients. 1 Deng Yong, a professor at the Department of Law at Beijing University of Chinese Medicine, recommends establishing mechanisms for entry registration, behavioral control, and public supervision, alongside multi-departmental joint enforcement to safeguard regulatory adherence. 1
