An undercover investigation has uncovered widespread deceptive advertising by multiple eye care cream manufacturers through WeChat groups and private sales channels.1 Products including Pumeduole Active, Oriental Medicine Forest, and Damei Tianxia have been making unfounded claims that they can treat myopia, presbyopia, cataracts, glaucoma, and other eye conditions, with some vendors even asserting that users can discard their glasses after treatment.1
According to the investigation, one consumer surnamed Su spent over ten thousand yuan from late 2025 onwards purchasing these eye care products after marketing representatives claimed that a manager with 550 degrees of myopia successfully removed their glasses after using the products for over a year.1 Sales staff also promised that visible improvements could occur within twenty minutes of application, claiming users would suddenly be able to read previously blurry instruction manuals.1 To evade regulatory oversight, marketing personnel employed coded language, substituting "rice" for money, "white something-or-other" for cataracts, and "cross" for doctor.1
Medical experts and regulatory authorities have categorically rejected these claims. Most of these products carry cosmetic or disinfectant registration numbers rather than pharmaceutical licenses.1 The National Health Commission clarified in 2019 that myopia cannot be cured under current medical technology.1 Specialists from Beijing Tongren Hospital and Fudan University's affiliated eye, ear, nose, and throat hospital have confirmed in recent years that myopia remains incurable with no effective reversal methods available.1 These marketing practices violate the Advertising Law and the Regulations on the Supervision and Administration of Cosmetics.1
