The proposed regulations prohibit vehicle lights from displaying text, with the exception of illuminated emblems 1. Additionally, the standards forbid turning off vehicle lights through voice commands or hand gestures for lighting fixtures as defined in sections 3.3.1 through 3.3.20 of the compilation instructions 1. The new standards also establish dedicated blue-green light color requirements for ADS (Adaptive Driving Beam) marker lights 1. To ensure proper light function separation, turn signals must not be combined with brake lights or rear fog lights, and backup lights similarly cannot be mixed with brake lights or rear fog lights 1.
The standards are recommended to take effect on January 1, 2028, with already-approved vehicle models granted a transition period of up to 48 months 1.
