Berkshire Hathaway significantly expanded its position in Alphabet during the second quarter, purchasing approximately 48.1 million shares of the Google parent company and bringing its total holdings to roughly 106 million shares valued at approximately $37.6 billion as of June 30.[1] The investment increase came after the company agreed to a $1 billion Alphabet stock investment in June.[1]
Beyond its technology sector expansion, Berkshire made substantial moves across the homebuilding industry.[1] The company raised its stake in Lennar by nearly 30 percent during the quarter and established a new position in D.R. Horton valued at $580,504.[1] In July, Berkshire completed its $6.8 billion acquisition of homebuilder Taylor Morrison.[1] The company also adjusted several other portfolio positions, including increasing its Delta Air Lines holdings to approximately $5.37 billion in value and reducing its Bank of America stake by around 6 percent.[1] Additionally, Berkshire completely exited its position in Constellation Brands, which had comprised 632,890 shares, while cutting its Capital One Financial holdings by 58 percent.[1]
