A series of shootings in Michigan left six people dead, including the suspected gunman, according to authorities.[1] The violence unfolded in Missaukee County, approximately 170 miles northwest of Detroit, when 39-year-old Chad Hickman opened fire at a residential location on Friday morning.[1] At the first location, Hickman killed a 16-year-old boy, a 45-year-old man, and a 40-year-old woman, while a 13-year-old girl survived the attack and remained in stable condition.[1]
After fleeing the scene, Hickman was discovered dead in a wooded area during an extensive police search, along with the body of a 29-year-old woman.[1] Authorities also discovered the remains of a 53-year-old man at a second residential location.[1] Prior to the shootings, Hickman had been convicted in 2024 on a misdemeanor charge of fourth-degree child abuse, for which he received a one-year jail sentence; prosecutors had withdrawn felony assault and criminal sexual conduct charges in the same case.[1]
