Israeli forces conducted an airstrike on southern Lebanon early Saturday morning, resulting in multiple fatalities and injuries. According to Lebanese Health Ministry reports, at least seven to nine people were killed in the strikes.[1][2][3][4] The casualties included children and women.[3][4]
The airstrikes targeted the Ansar village area in the Nabatieh region, with a second strike hitting Deir al Zahrani village.[2][4] The strikes occurred around 04:30 local time on June 29.[2][4] Israeli military claimed the operations targeted Hezbollah infrastructure, though Lebanese officials disputed this characterization, stating that civilians rather than military targets were struck.[4]
Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salameh condemned the strikes, stating: "Israel must stop this escalation. The safety of our people and their right to live on their own land are not subject to negotiation or bargaining."[4] This incident marks one of the deadliest attacks since a ceasefire framework was announced in June.[1][2][3] The framework agreement, announced on June 26, calls for Israeli military withdrawal from southern Lebanon in exchange for Hezbollah disarmament.[2][3][4] According to one source, Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon since March 2 have resulted in over 4,000 deaths.[3] Lebanese and Israeli negotiating teams are scheduled to hold their eighth round of talks in September.[4]
