British actor Bella Ramsey has reflected on their experience filming the new movie "Sunny Dancer," which tells the story of a cancer survivor at summer camp.[1] In an interview with BBC, Ramsey, who uses they/them pronouns, expressed that the production allowed them to experience teenage freedom at an age when most would have moved beyond such formative years.[1] "I got to be a teenager aged 21, which was brilliant," Ramsey said.[1]
The film was directed by George Jaques, whose mother was diagnosed with cancer when he was 15 years old.[1] Jaques consulted with the Teenage Cancer Trust during the film's development to ensure authentic representation of the cancer survivor experience.[1] The seven-week shoot gave Ramsey the chance to embody the character Ivy, a cancer survivor.[1] Both the director and cast reflected on society's understanding of grief and difference through this production.[1] Ramsey, who first gained prominence at age 11 in "Game of Thrones," has emerged through this project to reflect on the importance of compassion around loss and resilience.[1]
