Shenzhen has organized a summer research camp called "Qianshao Nian·Dapeng Red Footprint Exploration" to introduce young people to the city's revolutionary heritage.[1] The program selected 60 teenagers from 615 applications to participate in a two-day, one-night immersive journey on August 12-13.[1]
The 60 participants, divided into six groups, will investigate three carefully designed red heritage routes through field research and historical documentation review.[1] The routes—"Retracing the East Column Path," "Reshaping the Reform Spirit," and "Gazing at Stars, Looking Toward the Future"—are designed to explore the region's revolutionary history and trace how the spirit of the East Column guerrillas has evolved into the entrepreneurial ethos of Shenzhen's special economic zone.[1] Central to the camp's inquiry are two guiding questions: what sustained East Column soldiers through the turmoil of war, and how does that revolutionary spirit continue in today's Shenzhen?[1]
The research draws on local historical significance, noting that 2,583 East Column officers and soldiers departed from Shayuyu Beach 80 years ago for northern evacuation.[1]
