Ryunosuke Ito, a 21-year-old Japanese fly-half, has caught the attention of coach Eddie Jones following an impressive performance during Japan's recent test match series against Australia.[1] Despite never having played a professional club match and appearing in only four international tests, Ito demonstrated exceptional skill in Osaka, where he scored Japan's opening try in a 35-32 loss to the Wallabies.[1]
Ito's journey to international recognition began during an April tour of Australia, when he impressed during a match against Randwick at Coogee Oval.[1] The 172-centimeter player, who previously played for Meiji University, has recently joined Suntory and will start in a rematch against Australia scheduled for Saturday in Townsville.[1] Jones praised the young playmaker, describing him as "as good as any player in the world at fly-half for his age."[1]
The Australian squad acknowledged Ito's impact on the field. Wallabies prop Angus Bell remarked, "He was unbelievable, I can't believe he hasn't played a professional match."[1] Wallabies head coach Les Kiss added, "He did hurt us a couple of times. He's a dangerous player."[1]
