China's National Cybersecurity Alert Center has issued a notice identifying 75 mobile applications engaged in unlawful collection and misuse of personal information.[1] The violations span 13 categories of prohibited conduct, including failing to prominently display privacy policy notices to users, providing incomplete privacy policies, and sharing user information with third parties without consent.[1]
Among the specific violations documented, 26 applications failed to use pop-up notifications to alert users to read privacy policies, while 39 applications did not separately list the purposes, methods, and scope of information collection and use within their privacy policies.[1] Eight applications shared user data with third parties without obtaining user consent, and four applications collected information before securing user approval.[1] Additionally, 22 applications failed to implement security measures such as encryption to protect user data.[1]
Of the 72 applications reported in the previous notice, 24 were found upon re-testing to retain violations and have subsequently been removed from distribution platforms.[1] The testing period covered June 23 to July 28, 2026.[1]
