The Sydney Roosters have complained about ground announcer Josh Mansour providing guidance to Penrith Panthers players during an NRL match at CommBank Stadium.[1] Mansour, who serves as the venue's ground announcer, ceased broadcasting mid-game to shout advice to Panthers players, a practice that contravenes NRL regulations which restrict coaching instructions to breaks in play and official coaching staff.[1]
Mansour characterized his actions as a jest, stating "I thought it was funny until they asked me to stop."[1] The NRL determined no further action was warranted in response to the Roosters' complaint.[1] Despite the controversy, the Roosters secured a 12–6 victory and moved to the top of the ladder.[1] Penrith was without captain Isaiah during the match due to a chest muscle injury.[1]
Mansour spent nine seasons playing for Penrith and appeared in the 2020 grand final, before working as the ground announcer at CommBank Stadium.[1]
