Queensland Rail is set to restore partial peak-hour services from the following Monday, adding 135 additional services during morning and afternoon peaks in southeast Queensland, after weeks of protected industrial action created a maintenance backlog.[1] Transport Minister Brent Mickelberg praised workers who returned to their posts.[1]
The industrial dispute, which began in late March when train controllers stopped work over concerns regarding coal and mineral freight trains, has involved the Electrical Trades Union and the Rail, Tram and Bus Union.[1] Union secretary Peter Allen stated that "these services should have been restored long ago," while signaling that a settlement is within reach.[1] Three enterprise agreements affecting approximately 3,000 workers have reached in-principle agreement, offering wage growth of 8 percent over three years plus additional cost-of-living relief capped at 2.5 percent, with back-payment commencing from June 1, 2026.[1]
