American singer Selena Gomez has been accused of fraud by investors in her mental health startup Wondermind Global, which collapsed after failing to deliver on promised products and returns.[1] Five investors filed suit in federal court in Delaware, seeking recovery of their investments totaling $1.2 million.[1] The company, co-founded by Gomez, her mother Mandy Teefey, and Newsette founder Daniella Pierson, raised $5 million during a 2022 funding round that valued the venture at $95 million.[1]
At the time of fundraising, Wondermind Global pledged to develop a mobile application and leverage Gomez's social media following of over 500 million to drive marketing efforts.[1] The funding round included backing from Serena Williams's venture fund, Lightspeed Venture Partners, and Sequoia Capital.[1] Gomez served as co-founder with the title of Chief Influence Officer and held responsibility for marketing.[1] The investors, which included former Allergan CEO Brent Saunders, learned of the company's financial distress through a September 2025 article in The Cut.[1] The startup subsequently ceased operations last year without delivering the promised offerings to shareholders.[1]
