The siege has drawn rare criticism from U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee, typically considered an ally of the settler movement.[1] Huckabee stated: "The way these people are treating this family's home is a crime. The behavior of those perpetrating this terrorism to intimidate and harass this family is abominable. There is no excuse whatsoever to defend this rogue behavior."[1] In response to the incident, the Israeli military announced the demolition of two illegal outposts and detained one Israeli individual.[1]
The village of Kusra is located approximately 16 kilometers (10 miles) from Nablus in the West Bank.[1] According to reports, the number of settlers involved in the siege has at times reached dozens.[1] The broader context reveals significant population disparities in the territory: over 500,000 Israeli settlers now live in the West Bank alongside approximately 3 million Palestinians.[1] According to the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, 18 Palestinians have been killed in settler-related attacks during the first seven months of this year.[1]
