Malaysia has reduced unsubsidized fuel prices for the second straight week in August, reflecting volatility in international crude markets.[1] During the period of August 13–19, RON95 petrol decreased by 0.15 ringgit per liter to 3.62 ringgit, RON97 petrol fell by 0.20 ringgit to 4.15 ringgit per liter, and diesel dropped by 0.10 ringgit to 4.47 ringgit per liter.[1] This follows an earlier reduction in the previous week of August 6–12, when all unsubsidized fuel grades declined by 0.05 ringgit per liter.[1]
The price adjustments correspond to movements in global oil markets, where Brent crude initially dipped below 80 dollars per barrel amid easing tensions in U.S.–Iran relations, before recovering to around 87 dollars per barrel by August 13 as geopolitical risks intensified.[1] Meanwhile, subsidized fuel prices have remained unchanged throughout this period.[1]
