The United Nations confirmed that civilian casualties in Ukraine during July reached their highest monthly toll since 2022, with at least 437 people killed and 2,610 wounded.[1] This represents a 30 percent increase compared to June.[1] Russia escalated its assault during the month, launching at least 429 missiles, more than double the number fired in June.[1]
A particularly intense barrage occurred on July 2, when Russia fired 74 missiles and approximately 500 long-range drones in a single night, resulting in at least 30 civilian deaths and 104 injuries.[1] Among the documented attacks was a strike by Russian drones on a passenger train in the southern Odesa region, which destroyed the locomotive and killed two railway workers; the 340 passengers on board escaped without serious injuries.[1] President Zelensky reported that Russian forces deployed over 130 attack drones in one night, affecting 11 regions across the country.[1]
Since Russia's full-scale invasion began on February 24, 2022, the United Nations has verified a total of 16,874 civilian deaths and 51,273 injuries in Ukraine.[1]
