Rob Potter, a Canberra-based trainer, is preparing his horse Midnight Moose for a breakthrough in the Highway Handicap series after the five-year-old has demonstrated considerable promise in recent outings.[1] The horse has recorded three wins and one second-place finish from five career starts since its debut at Goulburn in January.[1] Despite overcoming injury setbacks and displaying a temperamental nature that requires additional time to settle, Midnight Moose is being positioned for a Saturday appearance in a 1,300-metre Class 3 race.[1]
Potter plans to use the upcoming Saturday fixture as a stepping stone toward potential entry into the Highway series races at Randwick.[1] The five-year-old, which stands close to 17 hands in height, will be partnered by jockey Damon Budler, a former South African rider aged 43 who has accumulated 203 career wins.[1] Potter has not yet secured a victory in the country Saturday Highway races, making this campaign with Midnight Moose an opportunity to achieve that elusive milestone.[1]
