The Eastern Village project was originally planned to deliver 3,000 apartments and townhouses in the Bentleigh East area.1 However, the council alleges that SEMZ is attempting to use the Development Fast-Track Process (DFP) to reduce the housing supply to between 1,800 and 2,400 dwellings.1 Glenn Eira Mayor Simon Zimotic expressed concern about the implications, stating: "If developers can use the DFP to build fewer houses, it makes a mockery of the entire system."1
