The project has sparked fierce resistance from the City of Ryde council, which contends that the site should be reserved for residential development or employment opportunities.[1] When questioned about whether the proposal serves the community's interests, Belinda Dennett, who leads data centre operations in Australia, declined to offer a personal position, stating: "I don't think it's my personal view that is particularly relevant here."[1] Local authorities have warned that the area is progressively becoming a "data centre wasteland."[1] The New South Wales government unveiled a revised planning framework in January of the previous year that permits more flexible approaches to industrial land use.[1]
