A survey conducted by the China Youth Daily Social Investigation Center reveals widespread reliance on artificial intelligence for medical guidance, despite significant concerns about the technology's reliability and risks.[1]
The investigation found that more than 92% of respondents have used AI to inquire about illnesses and seek medical advice.[1] Among these users, nearly 60% believe that excessive dependence on AI for health consultations can easily trigger anxiety.[1] The survey identified multiple hazards associated with AI-based health inquiries, with 45.5% of respondents reporting that AI diagnostics are inaccurate and prone to misdiagnosis or missed diagnosis.[1] Privacy concerns also emerged as a significant issue, with 39.6% of respondents expressing worry about data breaches and the unsafe handling of health information.[1]
The primary motivation for using AI health services centers on convenience—69.3% of respondents indicated they consult AI to better understand their conditions before seeking professional medical care.[1] However, medical professionals caution against substituting AI recommendations for clinical judgment. An emergency room physician, Qin Yan, emphasized that information provided by AI is primarily educational in nature and cannot replace a doctor's professional diagnostic expertise.[1]
