China's intelligent connected vehicle industry is advancing at an accelerated pace, with significant technological penetration and policy support. This year, Level 2 combined driving assistance functions have achieved a 70.5% penetration rate among passenger vehicles, while navigation-assisted driving (NOA) functions have reached 34.2% penetration [1]. The country has also begun deploying the first batch of Level 3 conditional autonomous driving vehicles in designated regions [1].
The nation has established robust testing and demonstration infrastructure to support this growth. China has cumulatively issued over 20,000 test demonstration licenses and opened more than 57,000 kilometers of test roads, with cumulative testing exceeding 220 million kilometers [1]. Additionally, 20 "vehicle-road-cloud integration" pilot cities have deployed over 60,000 units of intelligent equipment serving more than 100,000 vehicles [1]. In June of this year, China formally voted to approve the United Nations' global technical regulations on autonomous driving systems [1].
To further advance the sector, China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology is accelerating the improvement of its standards system to promote high-quality industrial development [1]. Over 120 standard projects have entered the proposal, review, or completion stages [1]. The country is also preparing for major international engagement, with the 2026 World Intelligent Connected Vehicle Conference scheduled to be held in Beijing in October 2026 [1].
