Israeli settlers and soldiers have besieged the homes of two Palestinian families in the West Bank village of Kusra since Sunday, cutting off water and electricity while preventing medical aid from reaching the residents [1]. The settlers erected tents at the entrance of Youssef Hassan's house, trapping him, his wife, and their two young daughters inside [1]. The blockade has prevented an ambulance from evacuating the family's two-year-old daughter, who requires medical care [1].
The siege follows the March killing of 28-year-old Amir Mutassem Ode by settlers, an incident in which Youssef Hassan was also stabbed but no arrests were made [1]. On Wednesday evening, Israeli Defense Forces Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir ordered the deployment of an infantry reserve battalion from leave to the West Bank and promised to lift the siege, though the blockade remained in place at that time [1]. Since 2020, Israeli civilians and soldiers have killed more than 1,100 Palestinians in the West Bank, resulting in only a single prosecution [1]. Over the past three years, Israel has forcibly displaced 64 Palestinian communities, with 15 others losing residents, displacing more than 4,800 people in total [1].
