A federal lawsuit filed in the Southern District of New York seeks to prohibit Trump Media & Technology Group from charging Wall Street firms for early access to the president's posts on U.S. policy through its Truth Social platform.[1] The Freedom of the Press Foundation and The Intercept brought the case against Donald Trump, along with White House Deputy Chief of Staff Daniel Scavino and Executive Assistant Natalie J. Harp.[1]
The plaintiffs contend that Trump Media's Truth API service, which charges subscribers up to $100,000 per month, violates the First and Fifth Amendments to the Constitution.[1] Under the service, subscribers receive a six-hour exclusive window to access presidential policy statements before they are distributed to other platforms.[1] The plaintiffs argue that official policy announcements should be made publicly available to all people simultaneously. Trump Media has defended the offering, asserting that rapid information access services are common in the industry and that the lawsuit represents an attempt to censor the president's speech.[1]
The company's stock price has declined to below $10 per share, down from $62 at the time of its initial public offering two years ago.[1]
