Tianjin's Hexi District Civil Administration Bureau has established China's first marriage registration office located inside a bank branch, marking a significant shift in how couples can access wedding services.[1] The facility, situated at the Postal Savings Bank of China's Siushui Road branch in Hexi District, officially opened on August 6, with two couples becoming the first to obtain their marriage certificates at the location.[1] The registration office operates on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 to 11:30 a.m.[1]
This development aligns with broader national reforms aimed at making marriage registration more accessible. Starting May 10, 2025, marriage registration will be available nationwide without restriction to one's local household registration, and domestic residents will no longer be required to provide household registration booklets when applying for marriage certificates.[1] Several cities have capitalized on this convenience by introducing innovative approaches to wedding registration. Zhejiang's Ningbo hosted 10 couples for a collective wedding ceremony at the 2025 Donghai Music Festival,[1] while multiple cities including Hangzhou, Ningbo, and Yiwu have launched marriage consumer vouchers to encourage newlyweds.[1] In Guangdong, Foshan's Shunde district offers one-time cash rewards of 2,500 yuan to newlyweds, with an additional 3,000 yuan provided upon the birth of a child.[1]
