Two California Mercedes-AMG owners have filed a class action lawsuit against Mercedes-Benz, alleging that metal AMG emblems on vehicle seats cause severe burns when exposed to high heat.[1] Gabriel Lahijani and Karendeep "Karina" Bath filed the suit in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, claiming the seat design contains a defect that endangers passengers.[1]
The plaintiffs seek compensation for medical expenses and damages, and are requesting that Mercedes-Benz remove the seat-mounted AMG emblems from affected vehicles.[1] Lahijani sustained first- and second-degree burns on May 31, 2026, after wearing a sleeveless shirt, with a dermatologist confirming burns described as bearing "AMG lettering."[1] Bath experienced a similar incident approximately six weeks later while wearing a sleeveless top, resulting in an AMG-shaped mark on her shoulder.[1] The lawsuit involves 2026 Mercedes-AMG E-Class sedans and other AMG-badged models.[1]
This legal action marks another significant challenge for Mercedes-Benz in the United States. In December of the previous year, the automaker settled an emissions testing fraud case for $149.6 million, addressing allegations involving more than 211,000 diesel vehicles from 2008 to 2016.[1]
