Europe is witnessing its first total solar eclipse in two decades, with Spain, Portugal, Greenland, and Iceland positioned directly in the path of totality.[1] The eclipse corridor stretches approximately 200 kilometers, beginning in northwestern Spain near Corunna and extending eastward to Mallorca in the Mediterranean.[1] Authorities estimate that roughly 6 million people may travel to locations along the eclipse path to observe this astronomical event.[1]
Beyond the path of totality, millions more across Western Europe will experience a partial eclipse.[1] The United Kingdom, France, Belgium, Switzerland, and Italy are among the countries where residents will witness a partial eclipse, with tens of millions expected to view the phenomenon.[1] For the UK, this event carries particular significance: the nation last experienced a total solar eclipse in 1999, when the eclipse crossed Devon and Cornwall, and will not experience another total eclipse until 2090.[1]
