British actor Will Poulter, director and writer Adam Meeks, and drug court project director Annette Deao are traveling across Ohio to promote their independent film "Union County," which explores stories of addiction and recovery.[1] The film is set to premiere in independent theaters nationwide this Friday and blends fictional narratives with authentic voices from the recovery community.[1]
"Union County" centers on the story of foster brothers Cody and Jack, but distinguishes itself by incorporating actual courtroom footage and featuring many real drug court program participants on screen rather than professional actors.[1] Meeks began developing the project after returning to his native Ohio in the summer of 2017 and has created a work that presents a hopeful perspective on rehabilitation.[1] Poulter, known for his role as a pharmaceutical representative in "Dopesick," stars in the film.[1] Deao, who has worked in drug courts for over two decades, brings her professional expertise to the production.[1]
