Australia is on the verge of concluding its largest defence export transaction in history, involving the sale of advanced phased array radar systems to the United Kingdom.[1][2] The radar technology, developed by Australian company CEA Technologies, is regarded as the world's most advanced system of its kind.[1][2] Defence Industry Minister Pat Conroy stated that "this deal, if it's concluded, will be the biggest export deal in the history of Australia in terms of defence exports."[1]
The contract, valued at more than $10 billion AUD, will equip British naval vessels and military vehicles with the sophisticated radar systems.[1] UK Defence Readiness and Industry Minister Luke Pollard visited CEA's headquarters in Canberra to sign a statement of intent formalizing the agreement.[1] The phased array radar currently equips all eight of Australia's Anzac-class frigates.[1]
CEA Technologies operates with over 800 employees and is majority-owned by Australian taxpayers following the federal government's decision to nationalize the company in 2023, with the government holding a 72 percent stake and founder Ian Croser retaining 28 percent ownership.[1]
