The appointment comes days after the firm faced public embarrassment over a whistleblower scandal involving the alleged illegal acquisition of confidential client board documents to secure new business.[1] Ebeid himself came under scrutiny for sending an email in which he described Senator Deborah O'Neill's statements as "completely false," subsequently apologizing and characterizing his message as "naive, embarrassing and wrong in every respect."[1] The fallout from the scandal has resulted in multiple departures from senior management: Louise Carpen, KPMG's general counsel, and Dorothy Siguro, the head of human resources, have both resigned over their handling of the whistleblower matter, while former chief operating officer Eileen Hoggett was immediately dismissed after whistleblower allegations against her were substantiated.[1] Further congressional hearings into the incident are scheduled for Friday.[1]
