Australian junior mining company Moonlight Resources has announced significant drilling results from its flagship Clermont gold project in Queensland, with the Phase 2 reverse circulation drilling programme completing 37 boreholes totalling 6,126 metres [1]. The exploration work has confirmed a mineralized zone extending over 1 kilometre in strike length [1].
The Phase 2 drilling results include multiple high-grade intersections across the Leo Grande area of the project [1]. Notable findings comprise 24 metres grading 1.22 grams per tonne gold, with a 9-metre high-grade core grading 1.28 grams per tonne and a 2-metre sample grading 4.47 grams per tonne [1]. Additional significant results include 19 metres grading 1.95 grams per tonne, which includes 6 metres grading 2.29 grams per tonne, as well as another 19-metre interval grading 1.36 grams per tonne containing 1 metre grading 8.39 grams per tonne [1]. Phase 1 drilling had previously confirmed 40 metres grading 1.3 grams per tonne from surface and 34 metres grading 1.37 grams per tonne from 6 metres depth [1].
The Clermont project encompasses 268 square kilometres within the Drummond Basin, an area with historical production and resources exceeding 6.5 million ounces of gold [1]. Moonlight Resources listed on the ASX in December following a capital raise of 10 million dollars [1]. Managing Director Greg Starr stated that "the gold mineralization structure extends unconstrained over a strike length exceeding 1 kilometre" [1]. The company plans to conduct diamond drilling to determine the structural controls on mineralization before releasing its maiden mineral resource estimate [1].
