Ahmed al-Ahmed, who gained international recognition for disarming the gunman during the Bondi Beach massacre, has been cleared of assault and harassment allegations.[1] Prosecutors withdrew both charges against him on Wednesday at Bankstown Local Court, where al-Ahmed had pleaded not guilty on June 24, 2024.[1] The charges stemmed from allegations that he placed his father in a headlock on March 9 and engaged in harassment related to an incident in June.[1]
An Apprehended Domestic Violence Order protecting his father will remain in effect for 12 months.[1] Al-Ahmed has claimed that family members attempted to claim a share of the $2.5 million raised for him following the Bondi incident.[1] His two brothers, Sameh and Hozifa, face separate prosecution for allegedly attempting to extort $200,000 from him.[1] In recognition of his heroism during the shooting, al-Ahmed was presented with honorary keys to the cities of Canterbury-Bankstown and Waverley.[1]
