Housing affordability emerged as the dominant concern, with 82 percent of young respondents citing it as a key worry in 2025, up significantly from 60 percent in 2022.[1] Employment opportunities similarly climbed the priority list, rising from 48 percent in 2022 to 64 percent in 2025.[1] While climate change concerns declined slightly from 47 percent to 44 percent over the same period, only 24 percent of young people believed the issue would be resolved in the future.[1]
The employment landscape has shifted in ways that obscure headline improvements. Although youth unemployment fell from 60 percent in 2021 to 44 percent in 2025, the proportion working in temporary positions surged from 18 percent to 32 percent.[1] Financial hardship remains pervasive, with 82 to 90 percent of young people experiencing financial difficulties throughout the five-year period.[1] Only 30 percent of respondents believed they could afford to purchase a comfortable home within a year, down from 46 percent in 2022, while those who save regularly declined from 49 percent to 43 percent.[1] Young Australians continue to experience mental health difficulties at among the highest risk levels recorded in the country.[1]
