The Australian Chamber Orchestra has unveiled an eclectic program for its 52nd season in 2027, highlighted by a new composition from renowned American composer John Adams.[1] At 80 years old, Adams created "Gioia" specifically for the orchestra's concertmaster, marking his sole compositional work for the year.[1]
The season will feature a diverse repertoire spanning classical and contemporary works. A major highlight is a collaboration with Belgian vocal ensemble Vox Luminis to perform Bach's "St. John Passion," which orchestra leader Richard Tognetti described as containing "the whole world."[1] The orchestra will also present John Cage's "4′33″" during its inaugural four-day music festival, "Currents," scheduled for June.[1] Cage's composition consists entirely of four minutes of silence.[1]
Despite being 61 years old, Tognetti remarked that he "always feels 17."[1]
