英国政府AI战略设计师加入Anthropic担任国际事务总经理

Matt Clifford, the architect of the British government's artificial intelligence strategy, has joined Anthropic as head of international affairs, taking responsibility for the U.S.-based AI startup's government relations outside America.1 Clifford previously served as an AI adviser to the British Prime Minister but departed from that role after six months for personal reasons, following a one-year gap before this appointment.1

Despite joining Anthropic, Clifford will continue in his role as chair of ARIA (the Advanced Research and Invention Agency), an institution backed by the British government.1 Anthropic, the company behind the Claude chatbot, is preparing for an initial public offering with a potential valuation reaching $2 trillion (£1.5 trillion).1

The move has reignited debate over the "revolving door" between government and the technology industry. Tom Brake, chief executive of the Democratic Audit organization, stated that "the revolving door is as much a problem for advisers and ministers."1 Labour MP Chi Onwurah expressed concerns about sensitive policy knowledge leaving government departments too quickly.1 The pattern is not new: former Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg joined Meta in 2018, former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak joined Microsoft and Anthropic's advisory board last year, and former Chancellor George Osborne joined OpenAI.1
