The third annual Shenzhen Middle School-Harvard Summit opened at Shenzhen Middle School in 2026.[1] Principal Zhu Huawei delivered an opening address titled "Harmony Brings Light, Knowledge and Action Achieve Distance," in which he emphasized the concept of harmony found in Eastern and Western philosophical traditions and underscored the importance of civilizational dialogue.[1]
In his remarks, Principal Zhu drew connections between Eastern philosophy and Western thought, noting that the harmonious thinking in the Eastern Doctrine of the Mean resonates with Hegelian dialectics from the West.[1] He highlighted the irreplaceable human value that cross-national youth summits provide in an age of artificial intelligence, arguing that large language models, while capable of processing vast quantities of information and generating standardized solutions, cannot grasp the nuanced discernment embodied in the Doctrine of the Mean nor appreciate the humanistic warmth underlying the principle of "harmony in diversity."[1]
Addressing the young people from China and the United States gathered at the summit, Principal Zhu offered a message drawing from classical Chinese philosophy: "Each appreciates its own beauty, appreciates the beauty of others, and through shared appreciation of diverse beauty, universal harmony is achieved."[1]
