The fifth annual Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Medical Experience Camp concluded successfully in 2026, bringing together 87 secondary school students aged 16 and above for an intensive five-day medical exploration across Shenzhen and Hong Kong [1]. The cohort included 19 mainland students, 62 Hong Kong participants, one Macau student, and five international students from Canada, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Singapore [1].
Throughout the program, participants visited more than 20 core departments at the University of Hong Kong Shenzhen Hospital and other medical institutions [1]. Students gained hands-on exposure to medical practice through surgical observation, emergency response training, and clinical skill demonstrations, experiencing the full scope of healthcare work [1]. The five-day itinerary encompassed initial healthcare experiences, a day in the life of physicians, end-of-life care scenarios, interactive sessions, and visits to the University of Hong Kong campus [1].
The camp's design reflected deliberate pedagogical choices, with administrators creating comparative learning opportunities to broaden students' medical perspectives [1]. Multiple participants reported that the experience solidified their commitment to medicine. Shao Haiyang from Shanghai High School International Department described how the immersion deepened his determination to pursue the field [1], while Liu Jinxuan from Hong Kong's Po Leung Kuk Choi Kai Yau School stated that witnessing a 26-week premature infant in the neonatal intensive care unit crystallized her resolve to become a physician [1].
